Study Online During the Summer – Open Studies at Lapland University of Applied Sciences
Summer in the Levi area can be more than work and free time and it can also be a great opportunity to develop your skills. The Open UAS at Lapland University of Applied Sciences offers several online courses that can be completed remotely, making them a good fit for seasonal workers who want to study alongside work or explore new career paths.
One example is Advanced Sustainable Tourism (5 ECTS). The course focuses on developing a deeper understanding of sustainable tourism from environmental, social and economic perspectives. Participants learn how to apply sustainability principles in tourism business, support responsible decision-making, and develop more sustainable services and operations in practice.
Another interesting option is Physical Activity and Wellbeing in Cold (5 ECTS). The course focuses on understanding how cold environments affect physical activity, health and wellbeing. Participants learn how to promote safe and sustainable physical activity in cold conditions and how to apply this knowledge in practice, for example in tourism and outdoor services.
Finally, Arctic Guide (5 ECTS) focuses on the special characteristics of the tourism industry in Lapland and working in Arctic conditions. The course provides practical skills for guiding, leading groups and operating responsibly in nature, including topics such as safety, cold protection and understanding the Arctic environment.
Open UAS studies are fee-based, but they offer a flexible way to strengthen your expertise or try out studies in a new field.
