Levi and Kittilä in Brief
Levi is located in the municipality of Kittilä in Fell Lapland, approximately 170 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Levi is best known as Finland’s largest ski resort, but the area offers activities throughout the year. In winter, visitors are drawn to downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and the Northern Lights. During summer and autumn, the region is ideal for hiking, cycling, golfing, and enjoying the unique fell landscape under the Midnight Sun and the vibrant colours of autumn.
The main industries in Kittilä are tourism and mining. Levi, located in the village of Sirkka, is Finland’s leading year-round tourism and event destination, while the Kittilä Mine is the largest gold mine in Europe. An international airport connects the area with visitors and workers from across Finland and various parts of Europe.
